Shubman Gill scored 223 not out in 133 balls, setting a new record for the fastest double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket. His innings came during India's second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati. Gill surpassed his teammate Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls for the fastest double hundred.
Gill’s 223 not out included 26 fours and eight sixes, helping India reach 406 for two in 43.3 overs. The score allowed India to chase down the target and secure an eight-wicket victory. This win gave India a 2-0 series advantage over the West Indies.
Gill’s performance was praised by team captain Rohit Sharma, who called it a display of determination and concentration. The innings marked a historic moment in ODI cricket, as Gill’s double century was the fastest in the format’s history and the highest score by an Indian in an ODI chase. It also set a new benchmark for batting in limited-overs matches.
